Burn Habitat

Habitats in western North America rely on wildfire to survive and thrive. Even as we dread destructive fire seasons, some species couldn’t get by without them. Climate change and decades of fire suppression policies aren’t helping, since modern fires can burn too hot for the species that need them to benefit. In a cycle of death and regeneration, fireweed and morels represent the new possibilities that come after a burn.
